Turing another year older is a hard thing for many. I turned 31 this week, now securely in my 30’s age bracket, my skincare ritual needed some updating. Luckily for me this year Estee Lauder has launched many additions the Advance Night Repair range.

I have been using the serum on and off for the past ten years, and I still remember being given my first sample of the little brown bottle when I was about 16. It was part of a Christmas gift, and equaled instant love.

Over the years I have tried the eyecream’s both the gel and the serum, and I can safely say that this is one of my favourite skin care ranges. When I heard about the launch of the Intensive Recovery Ampoules I knew it was a must have. I also have the new night cleansing lotion from the range which I hope to review soon.

Revolutionize how you repair at night. Help your skin recover the healthy, luminous look of youth.

Micro ampoules. Mega impact.
This powerful recovery concentrate calms and rapidly renews the look of over-stressed skin, helping to strengthen its resistance against future assaults.
Treatment oil includes ChronoluxAI technology to help reduce visible irritation and synchronize the look of skin.” – Estee Lauder

When opening a capsule, a lightweight oil is released. Gliding over the skin the treatment oil replenishes the outer layer of the skin. But what’s going on underneath?

To understand how it works we need to understand a little about how skin ages. As we age our cells start to produce less collagen, which we need to keep our skin supple. The antioxidant’s applied on the skins surface helps to prevent free radical damage, thus repair damage done by environmental aggressors.

Environmental factors such as the sun’s ultraviolet rays, pollution and smoking, which can trigger free radicals or unstable molecules that prematurely damage DNA (genetic material) in cells.” – Scientific American.

We also have a circadian cycle which co-ordinates the repair of our damaged cells while we sleep. Aka BeautySleepAs we age the genes that affect the circadian cycle get out of sync, slowing cellular repair. This is where the Chronolux technology comes into play. Chronolux technology is an amino acid sequence that helps to maintain a healthy cell repair schedule. It’s basically our skins personal assistant reminding the cells to repair at night.

Antioxidants & Chronolux Technology is already included in other Estee Lauder ranges so what makes the ampoules different?

With the new Intensive Recovery Ampoules Estee Lauder infused the current Chronolux with AI Technology, becoming a dual action, Anti-Irritation + Synchronization technology. This helps skin address all phases of irritation. Skin becomes stronger and is more resilient to future aggressors.

Apply PM after your repair serum, before your moisturizer. Twist capsule open, dispense into palm and massage lightly over skin using fingertips. Use it especially when skin feels stressed from environmental damage, lack of sleep, travel, even changes of season or weather.”  – Estee Lauder

It can be applied alone, or ontop of the serum. I finished my serum and I am using it solo. I would love to see how they feel together. When opening a capsule you need to be a bit gentle, it’s very easy to accidentally apply to much pressure while twisting and shoot the oil all over the place.

While being an oil I don’t feel this greasy or sticky. It glides onto my skin and feels comfortable, hydrated, and balanced. After using it for a few nights I am seeing a difference in my skin. I am feeling it a lot more supple.

There are 60 capsules in a jar, and in Malta retails for 75 euro. Each ampoule therefore costs 1.25 which is less than the cost of a coffee. So it’s definitely something that I want to keep in my routine. I love the glass jar the packaging is gorgeous. Although I hope in the future that Estee Lauder would consider refill packs. At least there is the option to recycle the packaging.

I feel like I am really giving my skin what it needs when I use this product. I wake up and feel my skin soft & hydrated. It’s almost a shame to have to cleanse my skin in the morning. I plan on buying my usual Advance night repair serum and using them together as a booster on the weekends, and when I feel my skin stressed. Although saying that I am an Advanced Night Repair addict. So don’t be surprised when I tell you I am using them both daily.

This is Dermalogica’s latest product, it’s been making waves abroad and I can’t wait to tell you why. I have been waiting for this product launch for months. A highly-active powder resurfacer that delivers your smoothest skin and helps fight skin aging caused by pollution.

I think this is a game changer. I used the trial size product for the first time last night and I fell in love. I honestly don’t know how to live my life without this product and already ordered my full size. I have never felt my skin so clean and smooth.

Skin Resurfacing.
Lactic Acid: re textures the skin, stimulates skin turnover and cellular regeneration. Increases hydration. Malic Acid: Helps remove dead skin cells, reduces the appearance of aging, promotes the production of collagen. Papain: Improves the skins luminosity, making the skin softer and smoother. Lipase: Breaks down sebum, makes it possible to remove the build up of pollution without harming the skins protective barrier. Subtiliain: An enzyme that eats away at dead skin cells.

Anti Pollution Technology.
Activated Binchotan Charcoal: resurfaces the skin, draws out impurities & excess sebum and pollution from the skin. Tara Fruit & Red Algae Extract: Together they form a film over the skin preventing pollution from entering the skin, and preserving the skins barrier function.

Anti Aging Ingredients.
Niacinaminde: Active vitamin B3 and an antoxidant. Reduces the production of sebum, and prevents pollution induced signs of aging. Rice Bran Extract: Antioxident rich, prevents skin ageing inflammation and improves collagen.

After cleansing, dispense about a half-teaspoon into very wet hands and create a creamy paste by rubbing hands together. Apply to face in circular motions, avoiding the eye area. Massage gently for one minute, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Use daily. For more sensitive skin, apply on alternate days until skin acclimates.” – Dermalogica

While I was massaging it over my skin I could instantly feel it working, my skin was becoming smoother under my fingertips. I felt my skin my subtle and while it was clean it was comfortable. The texture of the powder when mixed with water becomes quite creamy. I found it a little hard to control how much I poured. So you need to be careful not to waste powder by spilling to much.

The retail price is 61 euro so its quite expensive but there is 57 grams, so it should last quite a long time since you need just half a teaspoon. Considering the types of enzymes and technology used I can understand the price tag. Remember that this isn’t just a scrub, it is an anti pollution and anti aging product.

I am so impressed with this product, much more than I ever expected to be. My skin can tolerate quite active chemical exfoliation but I like using a physiological scrub every so often too, so I don’t think I will stop using my other exfoliation products.

I can’t wait to start using this as part of my routine. It has been almost 24 hours and my skin is still feeling super smooth and comfortable. My pores look cleaner, my skin feels firmer more supple. I am even more excited to start using this on my clients. I just know that this will be a sensational product with high delivering results.

I find buying mascara is the eternal dilemma. I’m always looking for the next best thing… higher lengths, intense volume, more curl. Each time a new mascara is launched it peaks my curiosity and I am always willing to try the latest trend.

I have never used this brand before, yet it comes highly recommended by the staff at Melita Pharmacy in St Julians. I think this is the first time 4 different members of staff all told me to go for the same product.

The aim of this product is high definition and volume. The colour is highly pigmented so its seriously black. I tried to take a before and after photo of my eye lashes but without mascara the camera couldn’t actually focus on my naked lashes.

The wand is plastic and has separate bristles in order to lift and coat the lash with product without weighing it down and making it clumpy. The wand is also quite thin, which I like as some times the bigger the brush the more messy it is. The texture also isn’t very gloopy which is important.

The photo shows a couple of coats of the mascara. It coats well without being to clumpy. I did apply in a rush so I didn’t clean up where it hit the skin on my lash line. I felt like my lashes had been elongated, it didn’t help with the curl at all. The volume is decent.

I think for me the big plus for this mascara is that it is incredibly long lasting. At no point did it flake or smudge. I find that unless I buy waterproof formulas they tend to melt under my eyes by the middle of the day. This really stayed in place.

The High Definition and Volume Mascara is well priced at 18 euros. There are definitely cheaper mascaras in the market, but then you will be compromising on the quality. The black is a nice rich black and the fact that it doesn’t budge all day, yet it isn’t a waterproof mascara is a big deal for me. I don’t want to do any damage to my lashes trying to remove at the end of each day.

I have used this mascara for the last few days, I think the more I wear it the more I like it. Will I repurchase? Perhaps. Do I love it? I think its still to early to tell. For the moment I am happy with my purchase, and I don’t regret it.

Whats your favourite mascara? Leave me a comment.

I have to admit the cc creams I’ve tried in the past never really thrilled me, then I was given this beauty in the shade light/medium and it literally changed everything…

In true Clinique’s style the CC Cream is in a green tube with silver lid. I love that the packaging is in a tube because it makes dispensing easy, I can squeeze out the right amount quickly without wasting product. It is also much more hygienic in a tube since dust, dirt and bacteria will be much harder to penetrate verses tubs and jars. I only need a little which should make the CC cream last quite a while.

“Correct any irregularities in your skin in one step with the new CC Cream SPF30 Superdefense. This new generation perfecting care moisturizes skin, corrects skin tone and prevents early signs of aging. Its smart technology instantly corrects redness, dull or uneven skin tone. In seconds, your skin regains its natural glow”. – Clinique.

The CC is oil free which makes it suitable for all skintypes. Absolutely perfect for my skin, which tends to be dry on the cheeks and forehead yet oily on the nose and chin. It contains a range of antioxidants to help protect the skin, boosting skin health, as well as an spf30 which is essential to keeping skin protected from sun damage.

For some one who is very dry they might need to boost with moisturiser underneath, for my skin I find that it’s fine for everyday use but I like to use a thicker cream for the evening which has more nourishing (and anti ageing) properties.

The texture is rather creamy considering its oil free, it’s got this gorgeous dewy finish that doesn’t leave the skin feeling sticky. I feel my skin instantly brighter and more even toned, it has this lovely radiance without shimmer that makes the skin look luminous.

This is how my skin looks with the CC & foundation, no concealer just powder and blush.

It retails just under 25 euro which I think is really quite reasonable, not exactly cheap but not the highest priced CC on the market. I love that it can be used as a light moisturiser with cover, or a primer under foundation. Since its such a versatile product no girl’s beauty stash should be without it.

I have worn this alone and with foundation ontop. When I use it alone it has a very nice glow to it, I feel my skin looks radiant but not shiny. It has a slightly dewy effect on skin which personally I adore, but if you prefer a more matte finish you can set with a little powder.

When I have used it to prime under my foundation I found that I needed the minimal amount of foundation as the CC cream has a lovely cover. I love to have quite a bit of cover so my skin looks uniformed also I generally skip concealer so using both the CC and my foundation gives me that even toned look immediately. One of the things I like so much is that it’s nice to build up layers with. When I use this with my Clinique Superbalanced foundation I get a really beautiful flawless finish.

I have to admit it didn’t make much of a difference to how well my foundation lasted, my foundation always lasts me a full day though.

I have been using it almost daily since I received it just before Christmas and I really really love it. Quite surprisingly my partner actually noticed the difference and told me how nice my skin looked when I paired the CC and foundation. So that’s a huge bonus as guys hardly notice these things.

Have you got any flawless foundation tricks?
Or brands you just can’t live without?

I am a little addicted to these…
Out of the 17 shades I own 5 and I am tempted to pick up a few more. I really don’t know how I lived so long without these in my life!

They have a cute yet simple packaging. The lids are black and the highly pigmented cream is visible though the tubes. The doe foot applicator makes it very easy to apply the lip cream. The names are listed on the bottom of each tube and each one is named after a city.

soft matte cream gloss nyx cream gloss names

Neither lipstick nor lip gloss, this matte lip cream is a new kind of lip color that goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream is surprisingly durable and, unlike some matte lipstick formulas, also moisturizing.” – NYX

I want to call this a lipgloss simply because of the method of application, yet its not glossy. Its got a smooth creamy texture whilst applying and dries into a matte weightless vibrant colour. Once the cream has dried it really stays put, I can wear it for hours, and kiss my partner without fear of leaving a mark.

I wouldn’t call it moisturising, however, I wouldn’t say it leaves the lips looking dry/feeling extremely either. After a full day of wearing I do need to slather on my favourite Elizabeth Arden 8 hr lipbalm to re-hydrate.

L-R: “Milan“, “San Paulo“, “Ibiza“, “Amsterdam“, “Copenhagen“.

The first shades I bought were Amsterdam & San Paulo. I had seen the beautiful red Amsterdam on a few blogs and really loved it, and the San Paulo looked like a good neutral shade not to bright not to nude perfect for everyday. A week later Milan, Ibiza and Copenhagen followed. So far I have used them all apart from the Copenhagen which is just a little bit too dark for my features. Sigh.

Described as:

Milan – Mid toned blue toned pink.
San Paulo – Plummy pink.
Ibiza – Matte deep rose pink.

Amsterdam – Pure red.
Copenhagen – Matte rich plum.

You can see me wearing the Milan here, Amsterdam here.

Well the price is brilliant less than 7 euro a tube! They do however tend to get used up pretty quickly, the Amsterdam has already started to dry out from over use. There is 8ml (0.27 fl oz) in each tube which is actually much more than some of my glosses. I guess that’s the only downfall of the matte quick dry texture.

I am amazed how well they stay in place! The second they get wet though they become like any other lip product and will fade. However for work where I am not eating and drinking for hours at a go, my lips can look as freshly coloured at 4pm as they were at 9am!

I would like to buy a few more of these, if not for myself to keep in my makeup kit. Such as Prague (a matte merlot), Sydney (a soft lavender), Monte Carlo (a deep cranberry red), Istanbul (a clean pink), and Antwerp (a mid toned, yellow toned pink)… I am sure I could add a few more but must resist the urge to buy all the lipsticks!

Have you tried Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream? what colours are your faves? and if not why?! Lady you better rush out and pick up a few from your local store.
