I was recently invited to the launch of Vichys Dermablend 3D Correction foundation. What really made this event so special is that the extremely talented international makeup artist Allison Depriestre flew in to explain how to use the new foundation, sharing tips and tricks. It was a really exciting launch, and we watched how different models skins can be treated using the Dermablend foundations.

What makes the 3D Correction foundation different from the Dermablend Fluid, is that it contains an amount of salicylic acid. Salicylic is one of my favorite cosmetic ingredients because its a beta hydroxy acid. This means it eats away at the surface dirt and grease to unclog pores. Who doesn’t love a mild chemical exfoliation?

“As with other hydroxy acids, salicylic acid is a key ingredient in many skin-care products for the treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis, acne, psoriasis, calluses, corns, keratosis pilaris, acanthosis nigricans, ichthyosis, and warts” “Salicylic acid works as a keratolytic, comedolytic, and bacteriostatic agent, causing the cells of the epidermis to shed more readily, opening clogged pores and neutralizing bacteria within, preventing pores from clogging up again by constricting pore diameter, and allowing room for new cell growth” Source.

The 3D Correction foundation also helps to even the skins texture, and fill in any pitting. Giving the skin a really lovely even complexion, with a great build-able natural cover. Which for acne sufferers is ideal.

For people with skin conditions such as pigmentation, vitiligo, and redness scaring Dermablend Fluid Foundation would be a better choice. It has a maximum cover and a long lasting formula which is sweat, humidity and water resistant and suitable for people with all skin types. It can also be used to cover tattoos:

I love this video! I wonder how long it took to cover him 🙂 During the start of the event a model walked around handing out cards with “I have a secret” at the end we saw Allison Depriestre removing the foundation to reveal hidden tattoos. I have to admit I wouldn’t have guessed the model was covering anything!

Here are some photos from the event, I actually run out of battery and didn’t take any photos myself, so they are from the Vichy facebook page.

It was a full house and I made sure to have a seat at the front (well second row) so that I wouldn’t miss a minute of the demonstrations. I was really lucky to be given a goodie bag with some foundation samples to test out, and a Vichy thermal spray ❤ So I will definitely be swatching and reviewing the foundation for you soon!

I have to admit the cc creams I’ve tried in the past never really thrilled me, then I was given this beauty in the shade light/medium and it literally changed everything…

In true Clinique’s style the CC Cream is in a green tube with silver lid. I love that the packaging is in a tube because it makes dispensing easy, I can squeeze out the right amount quickly without wasting product. It is also much more hygienic in a tube since dust, dirt and bacteria will be much harder to penetrate verses tubs and jars. I only need a little which should make the CC cream last quite a while.

“Correct any irregularities in your skin in one step with the new CC Cream SPF30 Superdefense. This new generation perfecting care moisturizes skin, corrects skin tone and prevents early signs of aging. Its smart technology instantly corrects redness, dull or uneven skin tone. In seconds, your skin regains its natural glow”. – Clinique.

The CC is oil free which makes it suitable for all skintypes. Absolutely perfect for my skin, which tends to be dry on the cheeks and forehead yet oily on the nose and chin. It contains a range of antioxidants to help protect the skin, boosting skin health, as well as an spf30 which is essential to keeping skin protected from sun damage.

For some one who is very dry they might need to boost with moisturiser underneath, for my skin I find that it’s fine for everyday use but I like to use a thicker cream for the evening which has more nourishing (and anti ageing) properties.

The texture is rather creamy considering its oil free, it’s got this gorgeous dewy finish that doesn’t leave the skin feeling sticky. I feel my skin instantly brighter and more even toned, it has this lovely radiance without shimmer that makes the skin look luminous.

This is how my skin looks with the CC & foundation, no concealer just powder and blush.

It retails just under 25 euro which I think is really quite reasonable, not exactly cheap but not the highest priced CC on the market. I love that it can be used as a light moisturiser with cover, or a primer under foundation. Since its such a versatile product no girl’s beauty stash should be without it.

I have worn this alone and with foundation ontop. When I use it alone it has a very nice glow to it, I feel my skin looks radiant but not shiny. It has a slightly dewy effect on skin which personally I adore, but if you prefer a more matte finish you can set with a little powder.

When I have used it to prime under my foundation I found that I needed the minimal amount of foundation as the CC cream has a lovely cover. I love to have quite a bit of cover so my skin looks uniformed also I generally skip concealer so using both the CC and my foundation gives me that even toned look immediately. One of the things I like so much is that it’s nice to build up layers with. When I use this with my Clinique Superbalanced foundation I get a really beautiful flawless finish.

I have to admit it didn’t make much of a difference to how well my foundation lasted, my foundation always lasts me a full day though.

I have been using it almost daily since I received it just before Christmas and I really really love it. Quite surprisingly my partner actually noticed the difference and told me how nice my skin looked when I paired the CC and foundation. So that’s a huge bonus as guys hardly notice these things.

Have you got any flawless foundation tricks?
Or brands you just can’t live without?

Searching for the perfect foundation #4: MAC Mineralize Moisture SPF15

“An innovative, gorgeous new formula, full of extraordinary benefits. Its lightweight lush texture feeds skin instantly with mineral-rich nourishing hydration, all day long. The uniquely creamy fluid, ideal for dry skin, blends beautifully, providing light-to-medium buildable coverage. Features our 77-Mineral Complex including Shea Butter, emollients and conditioning extracts to keep the face soft and supple.” – MAC

Mineralize Moisture is MAC’s “no makeup” foundation.

This is actually my first MAC product! Whilst abroad one of the first things I did was run to the closest MAC counter and ask for help. Since my skin is a combination (oily nose / dry cheeks) and I wanted something with a natural dewy finish the MUA recommended the Mineralize, first she removed my barely there makeup (holiday = rest from makeup) and prepped my skin.

She applied the “Fix+ mist”, then the “prep and prime” (to even out the redness) and applied the “colour NC25” with a flat brush, she added a little concealer and finished with Mineralizing powder and a bit of highlighter.

My skin looked flawless it was bf approved, so of course I asked help finding a blush… (which I bought) but that’s for another review…

me and mark hop on hop offThis was taken about 30 mins after my visit at the counter, whilst we was off exploring the city. As you can see it’s a really natural no make up look with just a touch of mascara…

I adore the way this product is packaged. I love that the pump screws to open and also really cuts down on product wastage.
The glass bottle doesn’t bother me (I’m used to using clinique’s super-balanced which is also in a glass bottle) it has a nice weight to it, not to heavy but feels sturdy.

“A combination of powders creates an optical blurring effect that virtually diminishes imperfections and fine lines, for a more even tone. The light-reflecting, natural satin finish makes skin appear refined, revitalized and refreshed with a new purity, softly lit from within. SPF 15 adds the perfect finishing touch of sun protection. Features our 77-Mineral Complex, Shea Butter and Vitamin E.”  – MAC

The formula feels weightless on my skin, ingredients like shea butter, tocopherol and glycerin gives the foundation a hydrating dewy finish which lasts all day.

As you can see from the above swatch the texture is a very light fluid, and when blended into the skin it leaves this gorgeous radiant dewy finish…  It’s so very smooth and covers any redness or blotches on my hand…

so this was the hardest part, when I wanted to re-create the look the next day back in the hotel I attempted using my fingers (like I always do with my foundation) which I didn’t really like the outcome from, but no fear I also have a flat foundation brush! So the next day I tried again… Flat brush still didn’t cut it and the application was not exactly how I liked.

Basically this process has been going on for nearly 3 weeks, I have eliminated a sample I was using of skincare, I bought the “Fix+ Mist” I bought a new primer (I prob should have gone for the prep and prime but I wanted to try out Smashbox) and I bought a MAC Duo fiber 187 brush which I was recommended to use at a different counter.

I have to say I am still sitting on the fence as to whether or not I like this foundation. At times application can be streaky, and combining all of the above products I have gotten the best application so far… Still not quite as good as it was on the day the MUA did it for me.

So my current process is:
Make sure I have used my daily microfoliant scrub (this foundation will find any patch or flake of dry skin).
Apply skincare.
Apply fixing mist.
Apply smash box primer.
Use 2/3 pumps of foundation into the duo fiber brush and blend into skin.
Apply the tiniest amount of powder (this foundation hates being dry)

I love how it looks on most of my face, the only area I am really having difficulty is my nose and the inner areas of my cheeks, this foundation is a bitch for settling in pores! I never considered my pores to be defined until I met this foundation.

I really want to believe in this product! I really want to be able to apply it the way it was the day it was done. I am coming to the conclusion that the only reason it looked good was because the MUA had removed my makeup and with it my skincare. I am sure that it would be better if my skincare routine was more simple, yet that’s one thing I refuse to change.

I love how my skin looks radiant and dewy and healthy everywhere except my nose which just looked spotted with foundation. I have finally come to the conclusion that I will need to use a dab of my trusty Super-Balanced on my nose. and blend into the Mineralized everywhere else.

I want to love this foundation but its really hard when it’s got so many steps to look good… I am actually considering buying the prep and prime, but I have now easily spent more on items to “help” the foundation than on the actual foundation. I have to admit they was also on my mind to buy but I definitely felt pushed to buy since I was desperate to make the foundation perfect.

Since I’m so unconvinced I think I will have to give this product only three stars!

The plus points for this foundation is that I do find it long lasting, and the finish is beautiful (apart from the problem area). The colour is a great match, and I feel like my skin is kept hydrated and smooth.

How far do you go to make a product work?

New Year… New Cosmetics Vs Old Favourites?

Hello beauties!
Today I bought two new products…

As some of you may know the last few weeks I have been on a mission to find a new foundation… (which you can read about Here, Here and Here) In the end I decided to go back to a tried and tested favourite of mine. Nothing beat’s Clinique when it comes to foundation…

This is “Super Balanced Foundation“.
Sheer might be fantastic for summer but not so much for the colder seasons and even though the texture is lightweight this gives me a moderate coverage. It’s oil free and good for a combination skin like mine.

I chose the colour 03 which is ivory.

As you can see from the pic it’s quite a creamy texture (it’s not runny at all) I could actually keep it on my finger upside down without it dripping. I like the way it just glides onto the skin.

I think the only con is that the container is made of glass so it’s a bit fragile. Although this has been my go to foundation on an off for years (I switch between this and “Even Better“) I’ve never broke a bottle (touch wood). I decided to rekindle my Clinique love affair after wearing the Sheer & Perfect by Shiseido for a week. I knew I wanted something light but I felt I needed a decent coverage. I might convert back to Shiseido for the hotter months of summer….

I guess some times what you are used to is the best after all!

estee lauder hydrationist

The other product that I bought was Estee Lauder’s “Hydrationist Cream” for normal / combination skin types. I have to admit I have used this in the past but the formula has been updated a few times since I last tried it.

With the cold my skin has been feeling a little dehydrated recently and although I really like Dermalogica’s “Skin Smoothing Cream” I felt like it just wasn’t hydrating enough. Skincare should be adjusted to what our skin needs so something like the Hydrationist is perfect because it’s a gel-creme texture packed with lot’s of moisture.

Another thing I have grown to really like is creams that don’t contain an SPF. I am head over heels for La Roche-Posay’s  “Anthelios SPF50 Fluid Extreme” it’s become a big part of my routine in the morning.
I think it pays to invest in a separate sunblock since most creams only have a factor 15 and that’s really not enough to protect the skin, especially in a climate with a high UV index.

Well that’s my splurge for today!

Searching for the perfect foundation part 3: Make-up Studio fluid

I think out of all the foundations to try this one is the one I am most excited about!

The truth is I have tried this one on twice already… Only I would try it on top of the make up I was already wearing and it was always late afternoon so I never saw how it would perform or look in daylight. I was really lucky since I borrowed the tester in the eve and took it back the next morning.

I am super excited to try it on clean skin and see how it will last and look by the end of the day.

This foundation promises to be no transfer fluid…

The texture is a really wonderful cream texture which fasts dries, it has quite a nice level of coverage.
Yet it still needed some concealer to even out my skin tone.

I’m sorry I look a little funny in these photos I was rushing out to work when I took them, and its a little awkward posing for 3 posts on foundation!

It does match my skin tone <KINDA> it’s a bit darker and slightly orange and needs to be blended really well. The only problem is it’s also fast drying so it doesn’t give you much time to blend.

The cover is good, it never felt “cakey” but I was a little conscious of the colour at some points during the day.

I have to admit it really is long-lasting and will not transfer. So if that’s your main concern its a winner!

At first I was really excited to try it… I think I hyped myself up!

During the eve it looks great on but during the day I didn’t feel like this foundation couldn’t compete with Clinique’s (my everyday foundation for forever) which feels so natural or the Shiseido Sheer which is so light and radiant. I could actually feel this foundation slightly sticky on my skin during the day. I think if the colour was closer to my own I would have enjoyed wearing it that much more.

Also I never got any compliments whilst wearing it which I did with the Shiseido…  Actually I had a friend comment on my photo on fb she liked the other better. I know you can’t really judge a foundation by the compliments you get in 12hrs but it never really stood apart from the previous one.I feel a little disappointed as this was the one I liked the most, and it turned out to be the one I disliked the most.

Which is why you should always try foundation on bare skin in good bright sunshine!
