Last week I had the pleasure of being invited to a red carpet event launching new SkinCeuticals products by Persona Med-Aesthetic Centre.

The SkinCeuticals Charity Campaign will last 1 year, with 5% of all 2015 SkinCeuticals Sales going to Hospice Malta. Hospice Malta is a fantastic local charity which does so much to help local people in need, providing palliative care.

The Malta Hospice Movement is today caring for over 900 patients and their families. Most of our patients have cancer while a small number have motor neurone disease and respiratory disease. They come from all over the Maltese Islands.” Hospice Malta. I am so happy to see local businesses helping the community and giving back.

I met up with fellow bloggers Elle and Lara, we were greeted and given a goodie bag from SkinCeuticals, and got the chance to pose…

The SkinCeuticals 2015 Charity Campaign was inaugurated by Her Excellency Madame President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, and special guest Lamia Natafgi the SkinCeuticals Education Manager from the Middle East who gave a wonderful presentation on skincare.

SkinCeuticals are a very interesting brand, which is dedicated to skin health. They have a huge range of professional treatments, and home care products to suit your skin concerns. I cant wait to try out some of the samples I was given in the goodie bag.

One simple promise – to provide advanced skincare backed by science.
Born from decades of skin cancer research that led to pivotal breakthroughs in antioxidants, our high potency formulas are concentrated in pure actives and proven to penetrate optimally into skin.
Made in the USA, our clinical skincare is used by dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and medi-spas for daily homecare and to complement aesthetic procedures. We formulate to correct signs of aging, protect healthy skin, and prevent future damage.” – SkinCeuticals.

The venue was wonderfully decorated.

With a dedicated team of professionals available for consultation.

The most exciting part for me was the Visia in-depth skin analysis. Since it was a popular part of the event, consultation times were limited. My skin analysis took about 10 minutes with the specialist, she explained normally they would take an hour to consult fully. I would love to book in for a full consultation, as a skincare professional I am obsessed with looking after my skin, and the Visia machine allows a deeper the diagnosis of what’s happening at a dermal level. The Visia takes photos of the skin and gives feedback…

The Visia machine first took a photo of my skin, then broke down my problem areas. Which if left untreated could result in pigmentation issues in the future. It’s a fantastic reminder to people to use spf since it shows the damage really is skin deep. I have always wondered what my skin looks like underneath. I am feeling pretty good for almost 29 (1 month to go), my water levels need to be increased but otherwise I am doing a good job looking after my skin.

experiment with nail colour…

Nail Polish can be a confusing choice…

With so many products on the market, and so many colours to choose from its not surprising that the average woman can end up with a box of used gloopy polishes in her possession.

This is a product no one can live without

A few drops of Mavala Thinner will restore thickened nail polish to its correct consistency making it easier to apply in thin coats. So ladies, you can now stop trying to add acetone into your nail polish, we all know it just doesn’t work!

Just add a few drops, turn the bottle upside down and roll between your hands. This method (opposed to shaking) will prevent air bubbles from getting trapped inside the polish. Leave the bottle to stand for 20 mins. Now you will never need to throw away a colour because it was too thick.

Choosing a colour…

I think for most women this is the hardest part, choosing a colour which suits you as well as looks fashionable. Colours are not just seasonal, they are accessories. The colour you choose represents a small slice of your personality. Nail polish is a quick way to dress up outfits. One of the things my clients are concerned about is colours that clash with the clothes they wear.

Personally I think its good to experiment with colour! Skin tone is important when choosing colours as every colour will look different once applied.

According to New York manicurist Deborah Lippman “If your skin is dark or has golden undertones, bright, true reds look best. To make pink skin look less ruddy, use lighter orange-reds. If you’re pale, the contrast of a blue-red is striking“.

I recently came across an article about colours and it say’s about you…

Fire-Engine Red: You’re sassy, self-assured, and not afraid to be dramatic. Bright red is a bold, look-at-me colour that is a symbol for passion, fire, and confidence. You love the spotlight, and you take charge of situations.

Hot Pink: You’re spunky and energetic. Pink is a colour that is associated specifically with women, and hot pink lets you show your spunk and spice.

Pale Pink: Painting your nails pale pink is a subtle expression. You are likely quiet, or at least you don’t want to stand out, and youthful. Pale pink is not significantly different from the colour of your nails (if you’re Caucasian), but you still want to show your soft side.

Black: Painting your nails black is a classic symbol of anti-establishment. It doesn’t mean you are depressed or going goth, but it’s a way of rebelling against the norm and showing some of the darkness in your personality.

Navy Blue: This is a colour of sophistication and authority. Wearing this colour on your nails tells people to listen up, because you’re in charge.

Aqua (Light) Blue: You’re showing the youthful and calm side of your personality when you paint your nails a light blue. Aqua is a cool colour, a nonchalant colour.

French Manicure: You are glamorous and professional. You don’t need a whole new colour; your nails look good as they are, and you simply emphasize and define yourself.

Magenta: A combination of the reds, pinks, and purples, magenta is feminine but not flashy. You are vibrant and youthful, but you don’t need to be the centre of attention at all times.

Orange: This colour is bright and vibrant, for people who want attention drawn to them. It also symbolizes autumn and the changing seasons: a time of brightness and change.

Dark Brown: A dark and rich colour, this shade of brown indicates boldness and authority. You like your nails like you like your men. Just kidding.

Maroon: Maroon is a warm colour, a combo of red and purple, retaining the authority of red and the confidence of purple. It’s a mature, sophisticated colour that, when worn on your nails, invites respect.

Coffee-Coloured: You are earthy and energetic. Tan and light brown are earth tones, cool colours that bring you closer to Mother Nature.

Green: This colour invokes images of vigour and the environment. Going “green” in your nail polish exudes earthiness and spunk.

Deep Purple: Purple is the colour of royalty. Wearing it on your nails shows you have a confident personality, and you’re not afraid to stand out from the crowd.

Lavender: You are graceful and collected. A combination of pink and purple, lavender is feminine and confident without the youthfulness of pure pink.

Have fun with colour.

If Barbie was an actual woman.

I read this article on another blog and felt it had a powerful message that needed to be shared…. and shared again just to remind all you amazing ladies exactly how beautiful you are, regardless of the industries expectations.

If Barbie was an actual woman:

She would be 5’9” tall, have a 39” bust, an 18” waist, 33” hips and a size 3 shoe. Barbie calls this a “full figure” and likes her weight at 110 lbs. At 5’9” tall and weighing 110 lbs, Barbie would have a BMI of 16.24 and fit the weight criteria for anorexia. She likely would not menstruate. If Barbie was a real woman, she’d have to walk on all fours due to her proportions. Slumber Party Barbie was introduced in 1965 and came with a bathroom scale permanently set at 110 lbs with a book entitled “How to Lose Weight” with directions inside stating simply “Don’t eat.”

Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one’s definition of your life, but define yourself – Harvey Fierstein

Working in the beauty industry I see first hand every day the insecurities of not just women but men as well. I myself am a very insecure woman. Bullied while younger has left scares & doubt and I tend to comfort eat for security (I am not alone) I see some of the most beautiful women feeling less than they should because this industry puts pressure to be a certain standard.

As I grow older I try hard to accept what god has given me. I try to help my clients to feel beautiful because I know that beauty is very much from the inside.

I want you to be able to look in the mirror and feel comfortable in your own skin. I am not perfect but I am beautiful in my own way. I want my readers to feel this as well.

Every day we see images which are made to make us want the unattainable…

I want to make people aware of  the work that goes behind the pictures you see in magazines. These are not real women, they are images which have been made to sell the idea of beauty. They have a team of stylists, hairdressers, make up artists, then you have the editing.

A few weeks ago I watched this video… And its something that I think a lot of people should watch.

I hope that this post will affect you positively and that when you next have a day when you look in the mirror and feel ugly that you remember this post.

Product Review: Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant

Hey ladies!

One of the products I not only love to use, but really lets me feel a difference in my skin is Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant. Its used in the professional line, and is fantastic for home use. I like to use this product in the morning as it will prep my skin for a beautiful even make up application. Some times I use it before bedtime if I’m too sleepy busy in the morning, so it’s really how YOU prefer.

This is a extremely gentle scrub made up of a powder to water solution that you mix yourself.  The powder is made with a rice based enzyme and Salicylic acid, which helps to brighten the complexion by dislodging dead, dull skin cells. Gentle enough to use every day, and fragrance free makes it suitable for all skin types.

Why I love it

I first tried this product I felt my skin instantly smoother, a little scared of how my skin would react I used it three times a week. I built up to using it alternate days and eventually nearly everyday. When using the microfoliant I noticed that products also absorbed so much easier, my skin became more even textured especially on the area on the sides of my nose, cheeks and my forehead (which was drier).  There is no more flakes, and the products didn’t make my skin red like most scrubs.

Exfoliation is key to keeping the skin in good health, as the removal of dead cells helps the skin to regenerate.

How to use

After you have used your favourite cleanser (mine is currently Dermalogica’s Special Cleansing Gel) place a small amount of powder in your hand (about half a tea spoon) and mix with water to form a paste. Apply onto the skin and use gentle massaging movements for one minute. Remove properly from the skin, I love to use flannel mittens to remove residues. You can then continue your personal skincare routine (tone, eye cream, serum and finishing with a moisturiser).

Tell me all about your favourite scrub!

Product Review: LCN urea foot care range.

Summer is here and its taking its toll on our skin…

One thing I notice from working in a salon is how fast our skin can dry up and crack. Home care is the MOST important part of looking after our skin. I also know how busy us women are, we have no time and we need results fast.

Today im going to review two fantastic products from LCN…

lcn urea

For ladies who want it all and want it fast there is the urea 10% foot spray. This product is fast acting just a few pumps onto the affected area and immediately you will start to feel the skin coated in a light hydrating film.
The product has a delicate scent which you wont find over powering. The best thing is its not sticky at all.

I think this is the ideal product for prevention, it doesn’t leave a heavy residue on the skin which in summer is really important. I would recommend using this product twice a day. A quick application in the morning just before putting on our flip flops and an application before going to bed. The reason for this is because our feet will be open to the elements during the day and that extra hydration and vitamins (from jojoba oil and provitaminb5) will help to protect.

It’s also a great product to take to the beach with you as after swimming salt and chlorine could really dry up our skin.

For the girls and guys whose feet are badly cracked and dry, then a more intensive product is needed. In that case I would recommend using a balm such as the Urea 40% chapped skin cream. It’s perfect for people with rough calloused dry skin. Even though the product is labelled as a cream its intensely rich. Its texture is smooth and silky a little amount of product goes a very long way and its fast absorbing into the skin.

Even though its a heavy weight I wouldn’t describe this product as greasy. Although I think if you was to apply to much it would leave your feet slipping in your shoes, so remember less is more!
I would recommend this product more for night use and combined with the spray in the day for a fantastic result.

What products do you use to keep your skin baby soft?
