I picked up a few L’oreal make up items recently from Melita Health and Beauty in St Julians. I will be posting their in depth reviews soon. I have been using them for about two weeks now and gotta say these surprised me!

Keep posted for swatches and my humble opinions…

I find buying mascara is the eternal dilemma. I’m always looking for the next best thing… higher lengths, intense volume, more curl. Each time a new mascara is launched it peaks my curiosity and I am always willing to try the latest trend.

I have never used this brand before, yet it comes highly recommended by the staff at Melita Pharmacy in St Julians. I think this is the first time 4 different members of staff all told me to go for the same product.

The aim of this product is high definition and volume. The colour is highly pigmented so its seriously black. I tried to take a before and after photo of my eye lashes but without mascara the camera couldn’t actually focus on my naked lashes.

The wand is plastic and has separate bristles in order to lift and coat the lash with product without weighing it down and making it clumpy. The wand is also quite thin, which I like as some times the bigger the brush the more messy it is. The texture also isn’t very gloopy which is important.

The photo shows a couple of coats of the mascara. It coats well without being to clumpy. I did apply in a rush so I didn’t clean up where it hit the skin on my lash line. I felt like my lashes had been elongated, it didn’t help with the curl at all. The volume is decent.

I think for me the big plus for this mascara is that it is incredibly long lasting. At no point did it flake or smudge. I find that unless I buy waterproof formulas they tend to melt under my eyes by the middle of the day. This really stayed in place.

The High Definition and Volume Mascara is well priced at 18 euros. There are definitely cheaper mascaras in the market, but then you will be compromising on the quality. The black is a nice rich black and the fact that it doesn’t budge all day, yet it isn’t a waterproof mascara is a big deal for me. I don’t want to do any damage to my lashes trying to remove at the end of each day.

I have used this mascara for the last few days, I think the more I wear it the more I like it. Will I repurchase? Perhaps. Do I love it? I think its still to early to tell. For the moment I am happy with my purchase, and I don’t regret it.

Whats your favourite mascara? Leave me a comment.

Today I stopped by the 3INA makeup store at Pama Shopping Mall, they have a really cool Valentines offer on two looks:

Each look consists of a blush, a red lip colour and an eyeshadow.

Left Valentines look:

  • Red lipgloss
  • Pink powdered eyeshadow
  • Pink powdered blush

Right Valentines look:

  • Red liquid lipstick
  • Nude cream eyeshadow
  • Peach powdered blush

Both looks are very easy to wear. I love the liquid lipstick and nude cream shadow, I have similar from another brand otherwise I would have bough this set. They say you can never have too much makeup but I am trying to not repeat similar purchases. So instead I bought some items that my kit was missing.

I took my time looking over the hundreds of colours they have on display:

The lighting made it a little hard to take photos, but as you can see there are loads of colours and a ton of choices. All for a pretty good price. I could easily spend a fortune as everything looks amazing. The textures are pretty good too. I swatched a few items and they seemed quite pigmented.

Will post a review of what I bought in another post soon.

Clinique is a brand that I am very familiar with, I have been using products of theirs for the last decade. I am a big fan of the makeup line especially the foundations. Recently they launched a new liquid eyeliner.

Pretty Easy Liner is a liquid pen with a really thin tapered and flexible brush. It makes application “pretty easy”.pretty-easy-liner

You can manage to draw a super thin line with it across the lashline without too much trouble. The black is a very nice black which is quite pigmented.

When I apply a full routine I apply foundation then shadow to my lids and then the liner just glides on. When I’m in a bit of a rush or not to bothered I apply just foundation and then the liner. I must admit when I do it the second way it’s not as long lasting and does have a tendency to smudge a little. Which is prob the only downside.
When I do apply a shadow under the effect is beautiful, non smudging and incredibly long lasting. I’ve received quite a few comments and compliments when I have worn it this way.

Sometimes I apply a tiny amount of powder over to soften and smoke the look.

I have noticed as I age that my eyes are more sensitive, I use my glasses all the time. My eyes feel strained by a computer / phone screen. So using a product that is fragrance free means I feel safe that I am not going to cause further irritation. It is also allergy tested and ophthalmologist tested. This equals peace of mind.

It is reasonably priced, I bought it just before Christmas and have been using it almost every day, I will update when it runs out how long lasting it is.

Am I a fan? Yes I am. Also I am planning to keep repurchasing this product for a while, its simple to use and has a great pigment.

I was recently invited to the launch of Vichys Dermablend 3D Correction foundation. What really made this event so special is that the extremely talented international makeup artist Allison Depriestre flew in to explain how to use the new foundation, sharing tips and tricks. It was a really exciting launch, and we watched how different models skins can be treated using the Dermablend foundations.

What makes the 3D Correction foundation different from the Dermablend Fluid, is that it contains an amount of salicylic acid. Salicylic is one of my favorite cosmetic ingredients because its a beta hydroxy acid. This means it eats away at the surface dirt and grease to unclog pores. Who doesn’t love a mild chemical exfoliation?

“As with other hydroxy acids, salicylic acid is a key ingredient in many skin-care products for the treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis, acne, psoriasis, calluses, corns, keratosis pilaris, acanthosis nigricans, ichthyosis, and warts” “Salicylic acid works as a keratolytic, comedolytic, and bacteriostatic agent, causing the cells of the epidermis to shed more readily, opening clogged pores and neutralizing bacteria within, preventing pores from clogging up again by constricting pore diameter, and allowing room for new cell growth” Source.

The 3D Correction foundation also helps to even the skins texture, and fill in any pitting. Giving the skin a really lovely even complexion, with a great build-able natural cover. Which for acne sufferers is ideal.

For people with skin conditions such as pigmentation, vitiligo, and redness scaring Dermablend Fluid Foundation would be a better choice. It has a maximum cover and a long lasting formula which is sweat, humidity and water resistant and suitable for people with all skin types. It can also be used to cover tattoos:

I love this video! I wonder how long it took to cover him 🙂 During the start of the event a model walked around handing out cards with “I have a secret” at the end we saw Allison Depriestre removing the foundation to reveal hidden tattoos. I have to admit I wouldn’t have guessed the model was covering anything!

Here are some photos from the event, I actually run out of battery and didn’t take any photos myself, so they are from the Vichy facebook page.

It was a full house and I made sure to have a seat at the front (well second row) so that I wouldn’t miss a minute of the demonstrations. I was really lucky to be given a goodie bag with some foundation samples to test out, and a Vichy thermal spray ❤ So I will definitely be swatching and reviewing the foundation for you soon!
